Cloud security assessments for AWS, Azure and GCP

Understand how exposed services, misconfigurations and cloud permissions could put your applications and data at risk. We assess your agreed infrastructure scope and identify the changes that matter most.

Review what your cloud environment allows

A service may be reachable from a network that should never access it. An application identity may have permission to read far more data than its workload needs. A secret exposed in one component may open access to another.

Cloud security depends on how resources, identities and network controls work together. Our assessments examine those relationships to identify weaknesses and potential attack paths across the environment in scope.

What we assess

Exposed resources and services

Identify services reachable from the internet or other networks, and assess whether their exposure matches the intended use. We examine how unnecessary access could put applications or sensitive resources at risk.

Identity and access management

Review permissions and access relationships for weaknesses such as excessive privileges or unintended access to critical resources. We consider what an identity could reach if it were misused or compromised.

Cloud configuration

Examine security-relevant settings within the agreed environment for misconfigurations and inconsistencies that could expose systems or data.

Network controls

Review how network access is restricted between public services, application components and sensitive infrastructure. We identify weaknesses in the boundaries intended to limit access and movement.

Secrets management

Assess how the in-scope systems store, expose and control access to credentials and secrets. Recommendations focus on reducing opportunities for unauthorized use.

Infrastructure attack paths

Investigate how exposure, permissions and configuration weaknesses could combine. A finding becomes more useful when your team can see which systems could be affected and which control would interrupt the path.

AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud

We assess environments running on Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. The review is scoped to the accounts, subscriptions, projects and services relevant to your objectives.

One workload or a defined group of connected resources may be the right starting point. An engagement does not automatically cover every account or service your organization operates.

When to request a cloud assessment

This service is particularly relevant for CTOs, platform teams and security leaders when:

  • A cloud migration or major infrastructure change alters existing trust boundaries.
  • New workloads or integrations require additional permissions.
  • Cloud accounts and access policies have grown without a recent independent review.
  • Sensitive data or business-critical services are being deployed to a new environment.
  • A customer or external assessor needs a clearer view of technical cloud risk.

How the assessment works

1. Establish scope and access

We agree the platforms, resources, access arrangements and assessment objectives. Configuration review and any active testing are explicitly defined before work begins.

2. Examine exposure and controls

We review the available configuration and environment information to understand resource exposure, identity permissions, network restrictions and secrets handling.

3. Investigate connected risks

We assess how weaknesses could affect the applications and data your infrastructure supports. Where active validation is included, it follows the agreed rules and access limits.

4. Prioritize remediation

We document the findings, affected resources and recommended changes, helping your team distinguish immediate exposure from improvements that can be planned over time.

Cloud review and network testing answer different questions

A cloud configuration review examines settings and permission relationships that may not be visible from a network connection. Network penetration testing investigates what can be exploited from a defined external or internal position.

Both can be useful when you need to understand a connected attack path. We define the relevant work together without treating a configuration review as an automatic penetration test of every hosted application.

What your team receives

  • An overview of the resources reviewed and the assessment’s limitations.
  • Findings identifying affected configurations, permissions or exposure.
  • Supporting evidence and an explanation of potential impact.
  • Relevant attack-path descriptions, distinguishing demonstrated behavior from potential paths.
  • Prioritized recommendations to reduce exposure and strengthen access boundaries.

Your team remains responsible for implementing changes. Any follow-up review or fix verification is defined in the engagement proposal.

Why CD Security

Our approach emphasizes the relationships between systems: which identities can access which resources, where trust is placed and what could happen if a component is compromised. We turn those observations into technical recommendations your infrastructure team can evaluate and implement.

CD Security’s established Web3 audit work supports the firm’s background in security research. Cloud assessments use a separate scope centered on your infrastructure and its controls.

Frequently asked questions

Which cloud providers do you assess?

AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. We agree the specific services and resources to be reviewed before the assessment starts.

What access do you need?

Access depends on the scope and the information required to review the environment. We agree the permissions and materials needed in advance; broad administrative access is not assumed.

Is this an application penetration test?

No. This service focuses on infrastructure exposure, configuration and access controls. Testing the business logic of a hosted application or API is a separate scope that can be discussed alongside the cloud review.

Do you make changes to our cloud environment?

The service provides assessment findings and remediation recommendations. Cloud implementation and operational management are not included in the offering described here.

Does this include continuous monitoring?

No. This is a defined assessment of the agreed environment. It does not provide ongoing monitoring, incident response or a managed security operation.

Can the assessment support an external review?

It can help identify technical weaknesses and provide evidence about the assessed scope. Share any reporting requirements in advance. The assessment does not certify the environment or guarantee acceptance by another party.
